No one else in the European jazz scene produces so many different timbres with his trumpet, has such a firm yet warm tone, or manages to spread his intensity to every corner of the hall as Eric Vloiemans.
He currently plays in an all-Dutch trio, Gatecrash, joined by Anton Goudsmit on guitar and Harmen Fraanje on piano. The upbeat extrovert Goudsmit is a real soul mate for Vloiemans. They are contrasted nicely by the benevolent calm of Fraanje, who is as cool as ice, yet always keeps his chords and melodies open and imaginative.
In the liner notes of Vloiemans' latest album, Boompetit, Eric aptly describes Gatecrash's music as `sometimes jolly and absurd, sometimes romantic or funky, sometimes harsh and overwhelming.'
