For newcomers to the Netherlands, the UT Nieuws seeks to offer some helpful Dutch vocabulary. Suggestions are welcome. To begin this series, here are two terms that are crucial to any inhabitant - short- or longterm - of the Netherlands.
gezellig - (adjective) cozy, comfortable, warm, convivial, pleasant. Used to describe a social gathering or living room décor. Don't forget to gargle before attempting to pronounce that pesky Dutch `g' sound.
lekker - (adjective) tasty, delicious. Be sure to use this simple word on a host or hostess when invited to eat at someone's house.
