Henk Zijm new rector

Last week, the Supervisory Board appointed Professor W.H.M. (Henk) Zijm as the new rector. His appointment was preceded by a unanimous nomination by the university management team and will take effect January 1, 2005 for a period of four years. Last week, the Supervisory Board appointed Professor W.H.M. (Henk) Zijm as the new rector. His appointment was preceded by a unanimous nomination by the university management team and will take effect January 1, 2005 for a period of four years.

Willem te Beest, member of the UT's Executive Board, has been appointed by the Supervisory Board as vice-chairman of the Executive Board starting January 1, 2005. `The procedure for finding a new chairman is still underway,' the Supervisory Board announced.

Professor Henk Zijm (1952) is currently serving as dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) and professor of operational research and management. He received a master's degree in applied mathematics from the University of Amsterdam and a doctorate from the University of Eindhoven before working at Philips in Eindhoven. In 1987 Henk Zijm became a part-time professor at the University of Eindhoven and, in 1990, a full professor at the UT.
