9th Jazz Day in the Vrijhof and Jazz Podium Drienerlo present pianist Guus Janssen
The music of pianist Guus Janssen is difficult to categorize. Working with jazz and classical music, he both composes improvisations and improvises compositions. He has been leading his own ensembles since the eighties, from piano trios to 11-piece orchestras. His piano playing is no-nonsense, without a superfluous note, but full of surprising elements and transitions. It is fascinating to be a close witness to Janssen's composing-improvising process!

The Hague Linea Recta, a program for three percussionists
Is a canon mathematical music or musical mathematics?
`In Praise of Johnny Appleseed' of Lou Harrison was originally a ballet, in which the score is designed to allow the choreographer to extract short or long phrases at will. Karel Goeyvaerts has created a musical rite with his five litanies. `Litany 2' is written as a rondo and intended for percussionists. The program is supplemented with `Drama' of Guo Wenjing. With only three pairs of cymbals and the musicians' voices, this revolutionary work of China's most prominent composer demonstrates how much one can accomplish with few means. Finally, `Amores' by John Cage; in four serene parts - without beginning, middle or end - this work describes the `quiet peace between lovers.'
