Xuemi Li earned her PhD in September 2003 in the Organic Chemistry group under Professor David Reinhoudt. Last April, Li's paper won her the prestigious Backer Award, which includes a monetary sum of 2500 euros. Her research in nanolithography concerns forming small structures on a surface using catalyzed organic reactions. `This was a total surprise to me,' exclaims Li, who is currently working at the Chemistry department of DSM in Zwolle, `A pleasant one though. Winning this award means recognition for the pioneer work that the research group of Professor Reinhoudt and Dr. Jurriaan Huskens. For me personally, it's a reward for four years of hard work.'
The Backer Award is awarded annually by the Royal Netherlands Chemical Society (KNCV) for the best Organic Chemistry paper. It is named after Dr. H.J. Backer, who was a professor of Organic Chemistry at the State University of Groningen.
On Friday, June 11 at 14:00, Xuemi Li will deliver a lecture on her paper at the section meeting of Organic Chemistry of the KNCW, in the Went building of De Uithof in Utrecht.
