On July 1st Hubert Coonen will become the new dean for the faculty of Behavioral Sciences. He replaces Lieteke van Vucht Tijssen, who has served as interim-dean since fall 2002.
Coonen currently works as advisor to the Open University Governing Council and as innovation manager at Fontys Hogescholen, in addition to serving on a number of boards and advisory bodies, such as the Education Council.
Coonen (52) lives in Utrecht. He studied at the Teacher-Training College in Roermond, graduated cum laude in Educational Studies and earned his doctorate in 1987 from Leiden. He taught for many years (1972-1990) and served as director of the faculty of Education at the Utrecht Hogeschool (1990-1999). He has authored 55 articles and eight books.
According to the UT Executive Board, Coonen's appointment is the result of an extremely long search, during which many candidates were considered.
