EU-council Presidency. Centre for European Studies, CES Cafe, cordially invites you to a discussion: 'Preparing for the Dutch Presidency of the EU: Challenges and Opportunities'. Starting July 1, the Netherlands will hold the EU Council-Presidency. The preparations for this period at the various government departments are currently under way. This Presidency, demanding in itself, will coincide with a particularly difficult period for the EU. The Dutch Presidency will have to work with 25 member states (of which 10 are inexperienced), a new European Parliament and a new Commission. Moreover, the EU's agenda presents a number of substantial political debates, such as those on the EU's future budget and Turkish accession.

Mendeltje van Keulen (Centre for European Studies, Twente/ Clingendael Institute) will outline the main priorities and preparations for the Dutch EU Council Presidency; the challenges ahead and the demands for Dutch public administration.
