Software engineers earn 26 percent more than last year, which brings the average annual salary (including perks and benefits) in that sector to over 45,000 euros. Managers brought in 20 percent more in 2003 to earn an average salary of 55,000 euros. Less positive is the salary development for service and support engineers: they lost 25 percent, which leaves them with an annual salary of just over 31,000 euros.
One of the effects of the recession has been that the fixed component of the engineer's salary has been increased from 89 to 92 percent, and the variable fee decreased respectively. Still, 26 percent of the respondents have a company car whose average catalogue value is 22,483 euros. Most commonly used is the Opel Astra, closely followed by the VW Golf, Ford Focus, Renault Mégane and Passat.
