The recently formed Turkish student association (TUSAT) is proud to announce its opening reception on Friday, February 23 from 4:30 - 6 pm in the Bastille Atrium.

TUSAT aims to advance intellectual, social and cultural interaction between all university students; to orient incoming students to the UT and assist them in their efforts to adjust to a new community; to support solidarity among Turkish students; and, to represent and publicize Turkish culture in a positive way. TUSAT PR liaison Gökhan Doygun (M.Sc. student, European Studies/BBT) states, `We want to build strong relationships and work closely with the administration and other associations in the UT. By organizing a reception, we aim to create a meeting atmosphere.'

Doygun will open the reception and introduce rector magnificus Henk Zijm for a formal opening speech. Mr. Hidayet Eris, Consulate General for the Republic of Turkey in Deventer, will also speak. Dr. Mehmet Aksit will give a UT perspective; Aksit is full professor in the Department of Computer Science and is affiliated with the Centre for Telematics and Information Technology. He is the head of the Software Engineering chair and the leader of the Twente Research and Education on Software Engineering (TRESE) Group. Mr. Selahattin Alpar, Ambassador of Turkey to the Netherlands, has also been invited. During the opening reception there will be a slideshow of photos from Turkey, Turkish music, Turkish snacks, and drinks. There will also be a stand for people interested in becoming a member of TUSAT. The board expects around 100 people. Why not join them?
