The visitation committee has the `overall impression' that the quality of the programs is satisfactory, that the lecturers are motivated and very approachable, and that students enjoy themselves. The quality of the lecturers is valued by the students. The curriculum is coherent, with a good balance and diversity of working styles. The level of the programs is good. The practical work is modern and `the appraisal is exemplary,' according to the chairman of the committee Dr. Gerard Nienhuis. There was considerable notice of the unique character of the `applied' physics. Also named as positive points are the quality control, study accompaniment and the pre-master's course program for higher professional education students.
The committee also gave some recommendations. The individual evaluation for bachelor's assignments could be better. The `entrepreneurial' character of the university is not especially apparent in the programs. The duration of the programs is a point of concern and the objectives could be more ambitious. The visitation committee thinks nanotechnology is `a program with potential' but it should strive for a higher profile. The definitive report of the committee will be published in a few months.
