The restart of the Batavieren race, Saturday 28 April in Enschede's city center, has been moved by the organization. There is now less room for the runners on the Oude Markt. This is caused by a dance event that takes place the same day because of Koninginnenacht .
Until last week, it was unclear exactly how the restart would take place on the Oude Markt. Coincidentally, the race coincides with the festivities for Koninginnenacht, the night from Saturday 28 on Sunday 29 April. This, combined with the shopping public, will result in extreme activity. Karin Gorter, vice-chairman of the Batavieren committee, says there was a lot to do with the restart. `After consulting with the police and shop owners, we have moved the route a bit, because there are all sorts of stands and podiums on the Oude Markt that day.'
It's the third time the start of the final stage (first the women at 5 pm, then the men at 5:20 pm) to the campus will take place from the city center. Before that, it used to be in the town of Boekelo, which is still part of the runners' route. The shopping public in Enschede, the full terraces and the live music make the final stage of the Batavierenrace even more festive than the folklore in the salt town, as Boekelo is dubbed locally. The final stage will be graced by the participation of local and national VIPs. The chairman of the Executive Board, Anne Flierman, will participate, his colleague Henk Zijm - known since last year for his ultra short shorts - will be in Crete on vacation.
