Temporary tatoo

Mehendi or henna body art is a centuries old art form which is becoming increasingly popular with today's youth. Though traditionally used only on special occasions, mehendi in its modern avatar is often used as an alternative to tattooing. Unlike tattooing, mehendi is neither painful nor permanent. Since the design wears off in a few days, the user has the flexibility to try new designs. As mehendi is a natural product, it carries no risk of allergic reactions. With so many benefits, mehendi's popularity is well deserved.

Mehendi is obtained by drying the leaves of the mehendi plant and then pulverizing them. This powder is then made into a paste, which is used to make intricate designs on the body. The leaves give a wonderful rich brown colour, a lovely fragrance and, in addition, have a cooling property.

As with any art form, applying mehendi requires patience and practice. Vishakha Agrawal who lives on the UT campus is an expert in this art form. She has exhibited her art in Enschede on various occasions and is esteemed for her stunning and intricate designs.
