TechMed Centre appoints a new medical director

Jouke Tamsma has been appointed as the new medical director of the University of Twente’s Technical Medical Centre (TechMed Centre). The medical specialist began his new position on the 15th of August.

Jouke Tamsma (55) is replacing Professor René Veth who served as the medical director from 2017 until 2019. Simultaneously with his new role at the UT, Tamsma will continue his job as a medical specialist at the Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC).

Tamsma has a lot of experience in the medical field. After studying medicine at the University of Groningen, he obtained a PhD at the Leiden University. Since 2000 he has been working as an internist specialized in vascular medicine at LUMC, where he was also appointed the Director of Medical Affairs in 2010 and a medical specialist advisor to the LUMC Board of Directors in 2018.

Tamsma is the final addition to the board of the TechMed Centre which is now complete. The centre, which specializes in healthcare innovations through personalized technology, is located at the UT campus. Its new site (Technohal) will officially open on the 29th of November.
