Lofrede Stevens
Richard Stevens is gepromoveerd in de groep van Detlef Lohse (Physics of Fluids). Deze groep is onderdeel van de faculteit TNW en het instituut MESA+. Zijn onderzoek werd gefinancierd door FOM (Fundamenteel onderzoek der materie).
Stevens rondde zijn proefschrift bijzonder snel af, na drie jaar en drie maanden. Het proefschrift is helder geschreven. Stevens promoveerde cum laude. Richard Stevens is een bijzonder harde werker, en is in deze korte tijd erg productief gebleken. Het onderzoek leidde tot maar liefst twintig publicaties in goede tijdschriften. Deze publicaties worden al veel geciteerd en behoren soms tot de meest geciteerde publicaties uit een bepaald tijdschrift.
Stevens werkt nu aan de Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore met een fellowship van FOM. Hij zal volgens afspraak over drie jaar terugkomen naar de UT.
Lofrede Katsonis
Nathalie Katsonis is a tenure tracked assistant professor in the group Biomolecular Nanotechnology (BNT), headed by professor Cornelissen, part of the institute MESA+ and the faculty TNW.
The jury was very impressed by Nathalie’s track record and CV. She has published more than 30 papers in journals with an high impact, and even two papers in the famous journal with the highest impact: Nature. Her H-index is 15.
She received prestigious individual grants from Research Councils on the National (VIDI) and European level (ERC Starting grant). The European grant was awarded last summer, and is an important grant of 1.5 million euros.
Nathalie won the Prof. De Winter prize for the article ‘’Controlling chirality with helix inversion in cholesteric liquid crystals’’, published in the Journal of Materials chemistry, an important journal on new materials, with an impact factor of 6. The article was identified as a ‘hot article’ on the website of the journal.
According to the jury the article is based on creative and original research. The article is good and important. It is very well written, and readable for someone without a background in the field.
