Urban Challenge
For the third year in a row, the launch of the Cordaid Urban Challenge starts today. Teams will develop new concepts for non-motorized transport with an emphasis on bicycles for use in the Mayatta slum area in Kisumu, Kenya. There are 37 university students registered from the Centre for Studies of Technology and ITC who will be paired with Kenyan students. The teams will design a project proposal and use a webcam to communicate between the two countries, the Netherlands and Kenya. Ghanaian Emmanuel Kofi Gavu, a member of last year’s runner-up team, will be lecturing and presenting material for the project on 30 September. Read more about Gavu’s life and the project in next week’s issue.
