What will the next year bring?

The Latin American student association was officially formed last year and is called ‘L.A. Voz’ or the `Voice of Latin America.' Victoria Marin, the new LA VOZ president, who prefers to go by the name Vicky, holds a Law degree and worked as a lawyer for eight years in Colombia, giving legal advice in international affairs. Now, she studies at the university as a PhD research associate in the area of biofuels at the CSTM Faculty.

With the academic year in full swing, she’s feeling optimistic in her new role as president. ‘I decided to take this position because I share the vision and mission of the association - not only in regards to the creation of a platform for Latin Americans to meet - but also to open the opportunity for non-Latin Americans to get to know more about our region of the world and enjoy aspects of our culture.’

The new board members met last Friday night to discuss and plan activities. Not only Latin Americans take part in their activities, but a growing number of non-Latin Americans comprises the fifty registered members in the association, reflecting 13 nationalities. Marin says, ‘cultural exchange will be the theme and the Latin spirit will be the driver,’ for the upcoming year. ‘We will continue with some of the activities of the past year, but we will try also to include new activities that involve debates and discussions about Latin American issues,’ says the Colombian.
