The program offers the possibility to meet other people in the same situation and share experiences. Dutch university employees will be available to answer questions and inform newcomers about how things work in the Netherlands and unlock the ‘mysteries’ concerning Dutch society.
Every year, researchers from abroad are offered a temporary job position at the UT. In almost all cases, the family of the employee moves to the Netherlands and has to make the adjustment to a new country.
Sometimes the transition for partners to Dutch society isn’t an easy one. ‘Over the past two years, we have seen an increase in the number of foreign employees at the UT,' says Bauke Visser who is the head of the Office of Foreign Employees. ‘Every year our office handles about 250 files. Each file represents one researcher who is alone or accompanied by family members. And with the increase, the number of people that have problems integrating also increases.'
The first meetings are scheduled for 20 September, 18 October, 15 November and 13 December, from 10am to 12pm, where coffee, tea, lemonade and sweets will be served.
