Twenty-seven percent of UT-employees and students suffers 'much' or 'somewhat' from rsi-complaints. Nineteen percent of the UT-population has 'little complaints' and 54 percent has very little to no complaints. This is shown by an opinion poll held by Newcom Research and Consultancy commissioned by UT-Nieuws.
For the students the number of complaints in the categories 'a great deal of problems' or 'some problems' is slightly higher than for staff: 29 percent of the students complains, as opposed to 24 of the scientific and 13 of the non-scientific personnel. National research at other universities shows that 30 to 40 percent of the students suffers from rsi. Students at the UT had not been polled before.
A small majority of the employees and students feels that his work or study place satisfies the requirements to prevent rsi (39 percent), but over 33 percent says that this is not the case.
On their workstation at home 34 percent of the UT-population says that this is not rsi-proof; 37 percent feels that he has set up his home workstation according to the rules. A large majority (52 percent) does feel that the responsibility to prevent rsi lies with the students and employees themselves.
None of those polled said to suffer 'a lot' from rsi. Not surprising, as the poll was taken on line, therefore the most serious cases would not have had the chance to participate.
