The Executive Board (CvB), the deans, and the scientific directors are agreed on the division of the so-called decentralised research incentive funds. This on the basis of advice given by the scientific council of the UT on the 35 research proposals submitted. Over 4.3 million euro in total has been divided among the four technical research institutes, for research projects running five years, and starting on 1 January 2004.
Mesa+, the institute for nanothechnology, collected 1.68 million euro. The Institute of Mechanics, Process and Control Twente (IMPACT) can go to work with 629,000. The Institute for Biomedical Technology (BMTI) is allocated 1.69 million euro and the Centre for Telematics and Information Technology (CTIT) receives 375,000 euro. These amounts include one million euro for so-called potential proposals from the institutes.
The allocation of 4.3 million euro is a significant increase of the research budget (which was 3.6 million euro). The CvB is very content with the way in which the division was accomplished and praises the international level of the proposals. It also shows the increased mutual co-operation of the institutes.
