The renovation of the well-known 'boerderij' across the road from the Drienerburght is taking shape. Until recently the creation of architect Pieter Blom served as offices, but an end to that came in the middle of last year. After a period of standstill and asbestos removal, the renovation is gaining momentum. It has to because before the celebration of the dies natalis (the university's birthday on Friday 28 November) the premises have to be ready to host an attractive guest restaurant cum Faculty Club, a new phenomenon for the UT. In view of this FC a 'stichting' will be set up. A four-man strong board, consisting of UT-employees Albert van den Berg, Dave Blank (chairman), Leo Goedegebuure and Bert Groenman will be shaping the Faculty Club (as the total boerderijcomplex will probably be called) both in form and function.

The Faculty Club will be a platform within this university, in which contacts are strengthened, new contacts made, and where one can participate in activities of a diverse, often cross-over, nature. A meeting place for scientists, other employees, and their guests. 'Not snobbish, but stylishÆ, according to chairman Blank. The higher goal is to increase the mutual connections of the UT-community. One can think of lectures by famous scientists, presentations, theme nights, but also something like a wine-tasting or other parties. The Faculty Club will include a permanent exhibition space for historical photographic material and display cases in which current scientific feats (like prizes) of UT-scientists can be shown.
