Campus resident Telematica Instituut is moving off campus to the building now housing the Grolsch brewery board on the edge of the Roombeek neighbourhood. This beautiful property is being vacated as soon as the Grolsch board moves to the newly-built location in Boekelo on 1 July 2004. Deep down, scientific director Chris Vissers of the Telematica Instituut would perhaps have preferred to stay on the UT-campus, but there was no choice. 'We have always enjoyed working here, in harmony and co-operation with the UT.' According to Visser plans were made for a new building for the TI on campus, but the plans did not come to fruition. 'We stopped hearing about it, and therefore considered it unsuccessful.'
Even though Vissers regrets leaving the campus, he considers the new location an enormous challenge. 'We will reside on the edge of a knowledge district that will be provided with the most up-to-date ict-services. We will play our part in that. In addition, it is important to show Dutch industry that the institute does not operate under the flag of the UT, but is an autonomous company.'
