Highly educated academics and young talented researchers are still in demand. Most academics find a job quickly, only two percent needs over six months to get work, and the jobs found are often high quality. This is shown by the research results of the Research Centre for Education and the Labour Market (ROA). In co-operation with the Dutch universities the ROA charts the labour market position of graduates over the full breadth of scientific education (WO) every two years.

This year the VSNU (association of universities) presents the third WO-monitor, which investigates the years 2000 and 2001 and shows that the labour market position of academics is still very good.

In 2001 the Dutch economy shows the first signs of recession. There is no labour shortage anymore and wages are rising less explosively than in the preceding years. At this moment, however, there is no reason for concern, according to the VSNU. The shift can be called minimal and with an unemployment percentage of less than three percent the labour market position of academics is still excellent, the VSNU concludes.
