The Medical Centre has no new general practitioner yet. Since Henk Gevaert left last month a substitute has been practicing while a definitive successor can be found. Jan Melief, director DiSC: 'We are conducting a number of interviews in the coming weeks. But, of course, we cannot keep on looking. The market is just very bad, it is really difficult to find someone.'
According to Melief this is not caused by the UTÆs conditions. 'These are good.' If it is not possible to find a successor, will the UT be without medical facilities in future? 'If there is no doctor, we have no choice. We will not say from one day to the next: find another doctor yourself. The Medical Centre will remain open for at least six months. And we will find another doctor, in the region, for people who need one frequently.' What about the rest of the students? Melief: 'Many students are still registered with their doctor in the town they come from. And for emergencies you can always find a GP to help you.'
