Last doctor to leave

| Redactie

The Medical Centre has to start looking for another GP. After Agaath Cornel (January) and Tom Elzer (March), Henk Gevaert is also quitting at the end of the month. The doctor from Nijmegen had plans to privatise the surgery, but he and the UT could not agree. As it looks now, Gevaert will leave on 30 April, when his temporary contract runs out.

'There is insufficient basis to embark together', Henk Gevaert says. 'I think it is very sad, because I would have liked to settle on campus. But the UT does not want to meet my conditions.' Gevaert had demanded that the UT should find him a place to work and live.

'The Medical Centre will soon become the place of residence of the Occupational Health Service. Therefore the surgery has to move somewhere else on campus. I would like to live there too. A reduction in living costs would compensate for the fact that the surgery makes a loss.'

Gevaert was supposed to hear from the UT whether they agreed before 1 April. 'Their promises were too vague, to my mind. At a certain point your patience runs out, I have a wife and children in Nijmegen and need to make a decision.'
