Unions and the university councils have been informed by the executive board (CvB) of the progress on the national project 'university function structure', which is nearing its final stages.

The project means that the jungle of job descriptions at Dutch Universities is reduced from 22,000 to 150, distributed over nine 'function families'.

There is more internal consistency among the new job descriptions and their basis is the results the position holder should achieve rather than his tasks.

With the national unions agreement has been reached that a lower classification should not lead to a salary reduction for present employees. A higher classification does lead to salary adjustment. The CvB has already announced that the operation should be budget neutral. It is not yet known whether that is actually possible.

According to the schedule the implementation project at the UT should begin mid-June and be completed before 1 December. In university council circles it is rumoured that this deadline will not be made because the (interim) deans have their hands full with the internal reorganisation.
