The university council (UR) agrees to the start of the educational programme Technical Medicine by 1 September of this year. During an extra meeting the council agreed with the plans, fiercely defended by the executive board and the intended educational director in a meeting with the UR two days before.
The UR finally agreed after having cracked some hard nuts with the executive board on among others the finances and the curriculum of the new programme.
The agreement was that the UT would not advance any money from its meagre funds to pay for the start-up of Technical Medicine. But even though the Education Ministry will not advance all the funds needed, the UR will accept the temporary drain on the UT's finances because the æprospects for the exploitation of the new programme are such that the initial outlay will be recouped within a limited number of yearsÆ.
The UR now trusts after initial strong doubts that a start in September is feasible, but does request that extra attention is paid to a more balanced distribution of technical and medical courses in the concept-curriculum for the first-year students.
