Internet is one of the primary necessities for many at the UT, where a connection brings the internet into every room with the speed of light. Only internetting on the campus grass is not yet possible. But this will change: the CIV is installing 650 stations, which should make wireless internet use on campus possible from April onwards.

But do people really need wireless internet? Using your laptop sitting on the grass only gives a person RSI, and laptop users can always get a cable to connect them to the network in any office or lecture hall. But ease is the key: a wireless user does not need to make any adjustments hopping from one work area to the next. And although the speed of the mobile net is lower, it is good enough for most applications including e-mail.

For the security of the wireless net an log-in procedure for students and staff will be set up. The connections will even be encrypted because it is fairly simple to get data from the air.
