An International Week and a traditional Dutch tulip as its symbol? If you find this funny, please think of the things the non-Dutch world associates the Dutch with: cheese, windmills and tulips! In order to break through this stereotype the university will be given an international touch from 3 - 10 October.

The organising committee, consisting of an Indian, Israeli, Finnish, Australian and even some Dutch students, has come up with a varied menu. The International Office and the internationally oriented student organisations (PITS) amongst other things present symposia, information on other countries, parties and international dishes. Rector Van Vught will set the ball rolling during his monthly breakfast with students and Prime Minister Wim Kok serves a lecture and discussion on the expansion of the European Union as a dessert later on in the week.

The International Week is part of the UT Anniversary as well as of the national studying abroad campaign of the Nuffic. The Nuffic is the Dutch organisation for international co-operation in higher education. The complete programme will be presented in this paper next week and can be viewed on www.utwente.nl/internationaleweek.
