Two of Enschede’s better mid-high priced restaurants are located close to the center. Eetcafé Atrium (http://www.eetcafeatrium.nl/) is on Stadsgravenstraat 47 and has a very cozy atmosphere, well-prepared seasonal fish and meat dishes, great desserts, and a decent wine menu.

Also in the area is the restaurant De Tropen (http://www.restaurantdetropen.nl/) on Bolwerkstraat 9 across from the Muziekcentrum. They have a diverse menu with seasonal fish and meat dishes and excellent appetizers such as crab cakes or tortilla salad. They also have great homemade desserts and specialty coffees.
For something a little different, just out of the center of Enschede on Nicolaas Beetsstraat 48 is the vegetarian restaurant Het Paradijs. Worth going just to see the bizarre interior of this art project/sculpture garden/restaurant, the well seasoned menu makes the trip even more enjoyable. Check the website for their unique hours: http://www.hetparadijs.com/.
For Turkish food, UT assistant professor of Computer Science Rom Langerak highly recommends Turquoise located on Korte Haaksbergerstraat 3 (near the bookshops and the sculpture of the geese). Says Langerak, ‘I like it because they serve nice food in a very friendly and unpretentious manner. I have been there six or seven times and am never disappointed. My favorite dish is Iskender Kebab, a kebab dish with layers of bread, meat, yoghurt, and tomato sauce.’
Whatever your taste, chances are there is some kitchen in Enschede that will satisfy it. Good luck and eet smakelijk!
