Green Team wins Communications Award

The Green Team Twente just won the Communications Award at the Shell Eco Marathon (SEM) in London. This means that even though they weren't able to set any valid result during the race itself, they are coming home with a trophy and a cash prize of €2,500.

According to the SEM organizers, the Green Team was selected as the winner because 'they developed and executed the most strategic communications campaign out of the entire competition.'

The team itself screamed with joy when their victory was announced on the hot stage in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. 'We worked so hard. We definitely deserve this,' said Karolina Vaschenko from the Green Team's communications group. 'We underwent a big rebranding. We did so much on social media and we also tried really hard to communicate with other teams, build a real community.'

'Yes, we put a lot of  effort into this,' adds her colleague Floor van Donkelaar. 'We were the only team here that was very active on social media also during the SEM itself. The number of our followers on Instagram grew a lot in the past couple of days. Winning this means so much. Now we can end this experience correctly, have a proper reason to celebrate.'

Communications award

The Communications Award is one of the off-track awards handed out at the Shell Eco Marathon. Any team participating in the competition can register for the award and the prize goes to 'the team that demonstrates continuous communications and promotional activities designed to promote the team in the run-up to Shell Eco Marathon'.
