As a means of relaxation, the Student Union offered a special kind of activity for UT students yesterday. They were allowed to pet dogs and play with them, on the field behind the Bastille.

De Student Union kreeg internationaal bezoek deze vrijdag. Een delegatie van student unions uit het Verenigd Koninkrijk kwam kijken hoe de UT studentparticipatie organiseert. Tussendoor had Jim Dickinson, Associate Editor van de koepelorganisatie WonkHe, tijd voor een kort interview.

The Student Union received international visitors this Friday. A delegation of student unions from the United Kingdom came to see how UT organises student participation. In between, Jim Dickinson, Associate Editor at higher education think tank WonkHe, had time for a short interview.

Student Union bezuinigt, verenigingen de dupe

De Student Union is genoodzaakt om met ingang van het nieuwe collegejaar bezuinigingsmaatregelen te nemen die alle sportverenigingen treffen. Zij worden gekort op hun subsidie. Ook de Unioncard wordt duurder en er gaat minder geld naar de studenttrainers.

Student Union cuts back, associations suffer

The Student Union is forced to take austerity measures that affect all sports associations as of the new academic year. They will have their subsidy cut. The Unioncard is also becoming more expensive and less money is going to the student trainers.

‘Als sporten duurder wordt, verandert ook de campus’

Als het aan dit kabinet ligt, komt er een einde aan gratis of goedkope sport en cultuur op de campus. De zogeheten ‘beleidsregel’ leidt tot zorgen bij betrokkenen op de UT, die grote consequenties voorzien. ‘We verzetten ons tegen dit beleid.’

'If sports become more expensive, the campus will also change'

If it is up to this government, free or cheap sports and culture on campus will come to an end. The so-called 'policy rule' leads to concerns among those involved at the UT, who foresee major consequences. ‘We oppose this policy.’
