The open arena of photonics

‘I wanted to create my own destiny,’ says UT alumnus Albert Hasper. ‘I had the choice to stay with a big company or to build something from the ground up.’ In 2018, he chose the latter. Together with another UT graduate Joost van Kerkhof, he founded PHIX, start-up focused on photonics assembly based in the High Tech Factory on campus.

‘Studie samen met topsport vergt discipline, maar het loont’

Ze combineren hun studie met topsport: UT-studenten Joep Wennemars, Mats Siemons en Chris van Dijk wonen samen in het sportinternaat TalentNED Academy in Enschede, waar ze volgens een strak ritme trainen, studeren, eten en slapen. ‘Wij halen ons plezier uit de sport.’

Jaco Zuurmond is de nieuwe studentenpastor van het Studentenpastoraat Enschede. Het is niet zijn eerste kennismaking met de universiteit, waar hij ‘een zoektocht’ start om zo inclusief mogelijk middenin de UT-gemeenschap te staan. ‘Het enige waar ik niet tegen kan is mensen die grenzen stellen.’
