The female faculty network twente (FFNT) is delighted to announce that Margaret Wertheim will give a `coffee break' lecture on Tuesday October 11th 2005, 10.30-11.30h, Amphitheater, Vrijhof. Margaret Wertheim is an internationally noted science writer and commentator, and author of `Pythagoras Trousers: God, Physics, and the Gender Wars'. This book presents a social and cultural history of physics. It explores how the development of physics has been intertwined with the rising power of institutionalized religion, and how both these predominantly masculine pursuits have influenced women's ability to join the physics community, the science itself, and the picture of reality it portrays. Wertheim will discuss several of the themes of this book. Staff and students -male and female - of the UT are invited to this lecture. Entrance is free.
