UT students organize a 24 hour event Twente-4 Hours Global

Students from the University Innovation Fellows (UIF) Twente program are organizing a Twente-4 Hours Global, an online 24 hours long event during which universities around the world will facilitate various workshops. This relay race will take place on the 8th of August and is ‘open to anyone interested in innovation and creating a real impact’.

Virtual reality: ‘Make the world as you like it’

For most of us, the term virtual reality (VR) sparks excitement. While the use of VR for entertainment has surely found its place in our world, the technology has much larger potential: for training, therapy and research. Many scientists at the University of Twente are exploring these serious applications. In their hands, VR becomes a tool to overcome addiction, to conduct experimental research in criminology and to treat psychiatric patients.

Solar Boat Twente reveals ‘Twentsch Pegasus’

Student team Solar Boat Twente presented their new boat ‘Twentsch Pegasus’ during an online reveal today. The boat was originally meant to be revealed in April and to compete in various races in the spring and summer. ‘Unfortunately this wasn’t possible due to corona, but we still wanted to showcase the result of our work.’

Three UT researchers receive ENW-KLEIN grants

UT researchers Arnd Hartmanns, Liliana Moreira Teixeira Leijten and Stefan Luding have each received ENW-KLEIN grant. The grant is awarded by the science financier NWO and consists of roughly 300.000 euros.

Half of PhDs report mental health issues due to corona

The PhD Network of the University of Twente (P-NUT) has conducted a survey to assess the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on UT doctoral candidates. Its results show that 50% of them expect delays due to mental health issues and that 75% of the respondents are less productive working from home.

Tinkering with molecules

PhD researcher Piet Driest from the Department of Material Sciences changed an existing gel-like biomedical material into a tougher version. With some additional modifications, the new material can be used in many other medical applications. ‘The chemical principles used open the way to endless possibilities.’
