Beijing's New Science and Technology Museum
The new Chinese Science and Technology Museum, called `the most modern of its kind in China' by the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, was inaugurated on September 16. First inspected on a tour by Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping and other party and state leaders, the vice president urged the promotion and enhancement of innovativeness in the nation. He further encouraged youth to respect science and to remain steadfast and creative in order to improve their inventiveness, hoping the new museum will be a helpful tool to promote education. Calling on governments in the world to provide favorable conditions for workers and organizations of science and technology, the vice president urged scientists to come up with insights to help support sci-tech, and also to cope with the financial crisis and the redevelopment of the economy. The museum was officially opened to the public on September 20, which was coincidentally the National Science Popularization Day.
