Promotierendement daalt

Het aantal aio’s dat binnen vijf jaar doctor wordt, daalt. Het promotierendement lag een tijdje tegen de zestig procent, maar de laatste twee jaar is dat gezakt naar 55 procent voor de promovendi die in 2008 begonnen en 53 procent voor het cohort 2009.

Jonathan Barreaux: I can see clearly now

Jonathan Barreaux likes to shed a light on things. As a PhD candidate he seeks to improve the use of XUV-radiations. And as the president of P-NUT, he advocates real professionalization and clarity. ‘When my presidency is over, I want to have an efficiently working board, more Dutch PhDs in the association, more information on housing possibilities and even closer ties with Twente Graduate School.’

‘The aim should be to make PhDs excellent, not generalists’

He was one of the driving forces behind the implementation of the for expats highly advantageous 30% tax ruling at the UT. But now PhD student and UT Council Member Victor de Graaff is on another mission: to stop the introduction of a policy measure that would compel PhD students to obtain 30 European Credits (ECs) through non-research course work. He talks about his concerns to Marloes van Amerom, and explains how UT-ers can give their opinion on the matter.

Rindia Putri winner of TGS Award

Rindia Putri has won the TGS Research Honours PhD Award for Twente's graduate student Top Talent. She is MSc student in chemical engineering. Prof. Jeroen Cornelissen, one of Putri's supervisors, accepted the award on behalf of Putri, yesterday at the opening of the academic year. Putri is the first winner of this new TGS Award.
