Venice Beach, een voorstad van L.A, is niet veel meer dan een boulevard en twee blokken er vandaan beginnen wijken waar je liever niet wilt komen. Wel is het hippiegevoel uit de jaren '60 en '70 er blijven hangen. De neven Lennon groeiden daar op, samen met andere muzikanten uit de omgeving. Ze vernoemden hun groep naar deze plek. De muziekstijl kun je omschrijven als rock, folk-rock met een flinke scheut country. Venice wordt vaak, door hun unieke samenzang, vergeleken met bands zoals Crosby, Stills and Nash, the Eagles en Fleetwood Mac. Deze 'Southern California sound of the 70's' wordt door Venice in een eigentijdse stijl verweven.

Lof voor natuurkunde

De kwaliteit van natuurkunde-opleidingen in Nederland is nog altijd erg hoog. De hechte band tussen onderwijs en onderzoek vormt een van de grote pluspunten. De visitatiecommissie Natuur-en Sterrenkunde noemde deze week de teruggang van de studenteninstroom echter een gevaar voor de toekomst.

Tot deeltijdhoogleraar bij TN op het gebied van de tweefasestromingen (Two-phase Flow Instabilities) is per 1 oktober 2002 benoemd prof.dr. John F. Brady. S.M.I.T. installs a new board

On Friday, S.M.I.T. (Student Mobility in Twente) installed its new board members for the coming year. The outgoing president, Jeroen de Groot, a master student of applied physics, handed over the reins of power to Dorien Wesseling, the new president, who is just back from India, after her internship in international management. The other new members of the board have all gained this status through the commitment and enthusiasm that they showed while working for the organisation.
