U-raad tegen opheffen onderwijskunde

De soap rondom het al dan niet opheffen van de bachelor onderwijskunde (OWK) duurt voort. Het college van bestuur wil per september 2013 alleen verder met de opleiding als variant binnen psychologie. OWK zou te weinig studenten trekken en financieel niet uit kunnen. Om de studie te kunnen stoppen is echter instemming van de universiteitsraad nodig. Die heeft laten weten daaraan vooralsnog niet mee te willen werken.

Boom symbolische start congres

AEGEE Enschede staat deze week voor een mooie uitdaging. Op uitnodiging van de studentenvereniging zijn ruim 750 internationale studenten neergestreken op de campus. Het is volgens de organisatie het maximale aantal studenten dat ze kunnen herbergen. De Waaier, waar ze een week lang workshops en thematische sessies volgen, is volgeboekt. Ook het Sportcentrum is afgehuurd. Het is de slaaplocatie voor de grote groep studenten.

Campus Party

The 5th of May is Liberation Day in the Netherlands. Of course, this needs to be celebrated! This year, for the first time, a 'Bevrijdingsdag' party will take place on the University of Twente campus.

Open air concert

In this warm weather, what could be nicer than a lunchtime open-air concert? Quatro Ventos is a group led by the Portuguese fado singer/guitarist Emanuel Pessanha, supported by guitarist Rafael Fraga, violinist and piano-player Aili Deiwiks and bass-players Norbert Leurs or Lucien Matheeuwsen. The group have already impressed both the press and the public here. Nobody should miss the opportunity to experience this amazing group at the University of Twente!

European Student Congress

In the next few days, University of Twente students might wonder what has happened to thepopulation of the campus. From 1stto 6thMay, around 1000 additional students from all over Europe will be at UT for the 'Spring Agora Enschede'. AEGEE, the biggest interdisciplinary European student association, holds a congress called an agora twice a year. This year AEGEE Enschede is hosting the biggest agora. The theme is 'Connect Today, Fusion Tomorrow: the role of European students in creating a sustainable Europe'. Sophie in't Veld, a Member of the European Parliament, and Frans van Vught, a European Commission advisor, will be among the speakers introducing the theme of the conference.The participants have a full program of assemblies, discussions, workshops, progress meetings and of course plenty of social events.

Strijd om titel Young Professional

De UT-alumnus Peter Kindt is in de race voor de landelijke titel Young Professional of the Year 2012. De oud-student Chemische Technologie werd eerder dit jaar verkozen tot Young Professional of the Year van ING.

Student krijgt fikse boete

De student die afgelopen zaterdagavond aan de Matenweg op de campus een bankstel in de fik stak, heeft een boete van 440 euro gekregen. De jongen gooide rond tien uur een heuse bank op een vuurtje dat al eerder was aangestoken. Openbaar fikkie stoken is verboden. Het leverde hem een fikse boete op.

Batavierenfeest druk bezocht

Het moest even op gang komen, maar uiteindelijk was het eindfeest van de 40ste Batavierenrace zeer goed bezocht. Feesten kon buiten op het gras, in de grote tent, de Agora of in de Bastille. In lange rijen stonden de studenten te wachten om de Bastille in te mogen toen de grote tent dicht ging. Rond een uur of half 6 vertrokken de laatste feestgangers weer richting tent of huis.

Wageningen wins!

The 40thannual Batavierenrace has ended with the Wageningen University Team taking first place in the university standings, Eindhoven came in second and the UT/Saxion teamfollowing up in third place. S.N.O.T. took first place in the overall standings. There were more than eight thousand runners coming across the finish line this year, including Lars Reeker.

Wageningen wint!

Het universiteitsteam van Wageningen won met ruime voorsprong het universiteitsklassement van de 40eBatavierenrace. Winnaar van het algemeen klassement werd team S.N.O.T. De finish op de Sintelbaan was sfeervol, maar wel met minder bezoekers dan voorgaande jaren. Desalniettemin waren de weergoden deze lustrumeditie gunstig gezind.
