Think tank to boost engagement: from ‘mini-traineeship’ to free coffee

In an attempt to understand and address the declining student activism at the UT, the University Innovation Fellows (UIF) and the Student Union (SU) organised an interactive think tank session in the DesignLab on Tuesday evening. ‘The benefits of engagement should be highlighted more prominently.’

In een poging om het dalende studentenactivisme aan de UT te begrijpen en aan te pakken, organiseerden de University Innovation Fellows (UIF) en de Student Union (SU) dinsdagavond een interactieve denktanksessie in het Designlab. ‘De voordelen van activisme moeten prominenter belicht worden.’

Activism? 'Sounds like fun, but I don't have time'

UT students see activism mainly as a fun activity, but lack of time and fear of financial consequences such as the long-term studying fine are obstacles. This is evident from the results of a survey conducted by the Student Union and the University Innovation Fellows.

Het is nog niet gelukt om een nieuw Kick-In bestuur te vinden voor 2025. De Student Union wil het studenten financieel en studiegerelateerd makkelijker maken om deze bestuursfunctie te vervullen. Daar stemde het college van bestuur maandag mee in.

De Student Union constateert een ‘algemene daling in het aantal actieve leden’ bij verenigingen, zo blijkt uit de pas verschenen activismemonitor 2023. Vooral de studie- en wereldverenigingen kampen met dalend activisme.
