Language: No longer a problem

As of July, the Vrijhof Culture Department has added a new tab on their website called ‘Language No Problem!’The tab appears as simply LNP and offers English news about upcoming performances at the Culture Department. Performing Arts Coordinator Tineke Grootenboer continues to upgrade the site: ‘We’ve added the brand new service for foreign students to stay and keep informed. With minor adjustments, our website is becoming more user-friendly for the growing number of internationals in the region and our own community.’ Grootenboer has also extended other current digital services to international students, visiting professors or the general public coming from abroad. Culture enthusiasts can opt to receive ‘Vrijhof Culture Mail.’ When subscribing to the free mail service recipients receive a weekly newsletter on the most up-to-date information about performances, art exhibitions and other cultural events at the university. Record

A record number of 420 students applied to follow a UT Bachelor in Psychology in the coming academic year, compared to an average of 250 students in the previous years. While demonstrating the growing profile of UT Psychology courses, this relatively high number of applicants is also problematic as the Bachelor has a ‘numerus fixus’ of maximum 350 places. Placement of new students in psychology bachelors programs throughout the Netherlands are allocated by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science by a lottery system. Students are currently being informed of their status through a formal letter from the ministry.

Vrienden van de ERC

Er moet een stichting komen die ‘Vrienden van de ERC’ heet. Die kan het geld beheren dat weldoeners willen schenken aan de beste onderzoekers van Europa.

NVAO: geef zwakke Inholland-opleidingen nog een kans

Inholland is op de goede weg volgens accreditatieorganisatie NVAO. Ze is positief over de verbeterplannen van de vier “zeer zwakke” opleidingen van de hogeschool en denkt dat die volgend jaar in aanmerking komen voor herkeuring.

Vangnet voor weggeselecteerde studenten

De Open Universiteit wil nadere afspraken met staatssecretaris Zijlstra over haar ‘vangnetfunctie’. Volgens de instelling is dat nodig nu aan andere universiteiten vaker mag worden geselecteerd.

Meer aanmeldingen voor lotingstudies

Wie moet loten voor zijn opleiding, krijgt vandaag de uitslag te horen. Al verschillen de kansen per opleiding, één ding is zeker: er zijn landelijk meer aanmeldingen voor minder plaatsen.

Donner wil goedkopere studentenwoning

Om de bouw van studentenwoningen te bevorderen gaat minister Donner bouwregels aanpassen. Vanaf 2012 mogen er kleinere woningen worden gebouwd en kunnen tijdelijke studentencomplexen niet vijf, maar tien jaar worden geëxploiteerd.
