'Apply knowledge in real life'
Being involved in other activities while studying, for example in a sports club or other student-run organisation, is always a good opportunity for students to develop themselves and gain additional experience. In the Netherlands this is known as student activism. It can be difficult for students to decide whether to 'be active'. On the one hand, employers value the soft skills which activism helps develop. On the other hand students are concerned that the additional time needed for activism will mean they need to study for longer, which can cost a lot of money. However, many at the University of Twente see activism as both important and valuable.
